Urban Boije af Gennäs

Title: The EU Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability – Towards a Toxic Free Environment
Urban Boije af Gennäs has studied biology at the universities of Lund and Uppsala. He has been working with environmental and health related topics in public society organizations, public authorities as well as the Swedish Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs since the early 90's. Chemicals policy has been his main line of work since 2002. Between 2014 and 2020 he worked as Seconded National Expert to the Directorate-General for the Environment of the European Commission, broadly involved in chemicals and environmental policy, including the development of the EU Chemicals Strategy. He currently works the Swedish Chemicals Agency (KemI).

Anna Lennquist holds a PhD in ecotoxicology from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She holds also degree in journalism from the same University and has a strong interest in communicating scientific findings to a wider audience. Anna joined ChemSec in 2011. She has since focused on substitution, first in the development of the SUBSPORT project and since 2013 as project manager of the SIN List. 2016-2018 she was also in charge of developing ChemSec Marketplace. Lately she has also worked with chemicals and circular economy.
Department of Environmental Science, Stockholm University
Title: The concept of essential use for determining when uses of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) can be phased out
Professor Ian Cousins is an environmental organic chemist and has worked at the Department of Environmental Science at Stockholm University since 2002. His research comprises a combination of experimental and modelling approaches to investigate the sources, transport, fate and exposure of contaminants. For the last 20 years, he has conducted research on PFAS and works closely with analytical chemists in his department to better understand the environmental behaviour of these contaminants. Prof. Cousins has published more than 170 peer-reviewed articles and 8 book chapters.
